November 30, 2006 - No post, sorry but sometimes work gets in the way

November 29, 2006 - Bush willing to work with Dems on trade

That was actually the headline to a Yahoo News story by the Associated Press.

The Dems took over government. To us it's obvious President Bush has no choice but to work with the Democrats.

Like we said two days ago, it's going to be an interesting two years.

Retire Already

We say the guys in this story in the New York Times need to retire:

Senior Statesmen Looking Ahead

Re-elected this month just before he turned 89, Senator Robert C. Byrd, Democrat of West Virginia, is evidently an inspiration to colleagues whose terms expire in two years.

Two other Senate octogenarians — Ted Stevens, 83, Republican of Alaska, and Frank R. Lautenberg, 82, Democrat of New Jersey — have already made clear they intend to run again in 2008. And John W. Warner, Republican of Virginia, who will turn 80 next year, feels fit and is said to be leaning toward another campaign.

Some of the younger folks are not about to be left behind. Senator Pete V. Domenici, the 74-year-old New Mexico Republican, has already announced that he plans to make another run as well.

“A lot of our more senior members are still at the top of their games,” said Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the new Republican leader, who is eager to keep party retirements to a minimum.

Washington, DC is the only place we know of where senility equals seniority.

Small states getting screwed again

According to a report in the Boston Globe California, Florida and Michigan want to move their Presidential primaries to "as close as possible" to the date of the New Hampshire primary.

This is getting ridiculous, all these states moving their primaries. Let the smaller states go first so they at least have some importance.

"Legislation ought to be based on evidence, not ideology"

According to the Associated Press, U.S. Representative Henry Waxman is the "lawmaker poised to cause the Bush administration's biggest headaches when Democrats take control of Congress ."

The report goes on to say, Waxman has has spent the last six years waging a guerrilla campaign against the White House and its corporate allies."

Yet it ends with Waxman's quote that "legislation ought to be based on evidence, not ideology." So, we wonder if Waxman is going to continue his campaign against the White House or if he is going to take his own advice and legislate based on evidence , not ideology. It should be an interesting two years.

Looks like Brownback is in.

Republican Senator Sam Brownback appeared on ABC's "This Week" and sounded an awful lot like a guy who is going to finally announce he is running for Prez.

Even George Stephanopoulos thinks he's in. George told Brownback, "I can tell from that smile that you're in."

We think Republicans are going to like this guy because he is not a RINO like McCain and Giuliani.

November 23, 2006 -

Who saw this one coming?

Thanks to Massachusetts allowing gays to marry Rhode Island now has a problem on its hands.

According to published reports (here) "A lesbian couple married in Massachusetts has filed for divorce in Rhode Island, setting up a legal conundrum for judges in a state where the laws are silent on the legality of same-sex marriage."

The problem is, Rhode Island doesn't have case law with regard to same-sex marriage.

We say the lesbian couple should go back to Massachusetts to get their divorce.

Thanksgiving

Be thankful for something today!

November 22, 2006 - Update

The Texas CD23 runoff will be held on December 12.

Still need an election to watch?

For those of you who still need an election to watch go to Texas. The Lone Star State still has to decide whether the 23rd District runoff between Congressman Henry Bonilla (R) and former Congressman Ciro Rodriguez (D) will be held on December 12 or December 19.

November 21, 2006 - Enough already with the "Reagan Republican" stuff

According to published reports Republican Kansas Senator Sam Brownback said he thinks there is "room for a full-scale Ronald Reagan conservative in the field" of Republican candidates and he would decide next month if he is going to seek the GOP's presidential nomination.

We're sick of hearing the Reagan Republican stuff. It's the GOP Primary, every candidate, even RINOs Giuliani and McCain, are going to try to sound like Ronald Reagan and Abe Lincoln.

We'll be impressed with whatever candidate runs as himself (or herself).

November 20, 2006 - Iraq

One of us, our Republican half, has a friend serving in Iraq. He is with WPNS CO - 1st BTN 24th MARINES and sends updates when he can. As such we have decided to post some of what he has sent as to what's going on over there and we'll soon put up a new page dedicated to the war.

Here are a few days in the life of Cpl. Todd "Cac" Caccamo, USMC

10-31-06

Today was a mixed day. These scum bag terrorists ambushed a civilian convoy that was carrying supplies for a local Iraqi hospital. Let me say that again. SUPPLIES FOR A LOCAL IRAQI HOSPITAL! They killed four and wounded one (I medevac’d the wounded guy). The bodies of the four poor guys were mangled in unimaginable carnage. The terrorists had staged a complex and well planned ambush with roadside bombs, machine guns and rockets. They were even planning kidnapping and murdering the survivors then hanging their bodies on a bridge as their own perverted badge of honor. But they didn’t plan on one thing: the US Marines rolling rough. Our unit was in the area so we rolled in to help. God was with us because as we rolled through, we rolled past some planted explosive devices which failed to explode and then we proceeded to wreak havoc on these animals. Hearing the lead .50 cal and M240 machine guns light up was music to my ears. It was good to know that today we not only engaged the enemy, but we helped to save innocent lives in the process. I can think of no better feeling….
In other happenings, the terrorists had planned to and dragged an Iraqi policeman out in the road and executed him in plain site of the public…however, they again didn’t plan Marines being in the area. Need I elaborate?
Got the best care package today from the Plymouth Newcomers. LaGloria Cubana and Joya de Nicaragua Antano Cigars! I love you guys!!!

11-1

Spent all day fixing our vehicle – the rear suspension is wasted, cleaning weapons, getting haircuts, etc…
You’ll never guess who visited us today. CHUCK NORRIS. We were coming back from a mission and we saw some helos flying in. We had heard the rumors about Chuck coming but had dismissed them (then again the crew from JackA** visited us in Cali). Lo and behold, we saw the Chuckster getting off the Blackhawk and walking into the Battalion HQ. He still has this scruffy beard and is a lot shorter than I expected….
Feelings continue to jump around. Absolutely exhausted today. I guess the mental stress has been wearing on me more than I knew. I feel like I just want to sleep and that’s all. No shower, no food, nothing….
Picked out the Ace of Spades and Jokers out of multiple decks of playing cards and wrote “Greeting Cards” for the enemy as well as wrote “greetings” on grenades, bullets and the like.
Got the best Sweetest Day card from Kay. I realize I missed Sweetest Day. She is gonna make me pay when I get home…maybe she will forget? Momma doesn’t forget a thing….
I miss my stupid dog….
Tomorrow, back to the war….

11-2-06

On the road by 3:45 AM to patrol MSR Fran. Found a pressure plate IED on N. Henry. A new type never seen before. I think we will nickname it the Flounder (in honor of Sgt Fisher - the first to spot it).
Found another IED along Fran in the afternoon. Buried Arty round. I think we spooked the guy as he was laying it. We raided nearby houses and offices but no dice. I was hoping to use my HMMWV as a battering ram to ram a gate, but it was unlocked. BUMMER! When EOD detonated the IED, it rained metal on nearby roof tops. Whoops!
2nd Plt is still bummed out about their casualties. I noticed their names painted on their turrets. 3rd Plt found three IEDs today. I say we top them by finding 4 and toss in a firefight on top. Let’s place our bets. Speaking of bets, we are still taking bets on who gets blown up next. The pattern is pointing to V2. The pattern shows my vehicle as last to get hit (although it was arguably tied to be the first when we got hit back in September). Skipper asked about the damage to my windshield, we laughed and said, “More bullet marks? Cool…less glass to clean!” I joke to the driver and say, “Let’s get YOUR side shot up a little this time, OK?” This reminds me to go down to HQ to continue to raise hell about why I do not have the up to date armor or weapons for me or my Marines yet.

November 17, 2006 - Pelosi/McCain/Political Jobs Updated

Pelosi Loses the First Battle She Chose

Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) easily defeated Congressman John Murtha (D-PA), a decorated war veteran and Iraq War opponent, by a vote of 149-86.  Hoyer spent the past year fundraising and campaigning on behalf of more than 80 House candidates.

Pelosi probably should have considered backing a candidate who didn't have the skeletons of the ABSCAM probe of the 1970s to deal with.

McCain Wants Common Sense Conservatism?

According to news reports Senator John McCain said Thursday the GOP has lost its way and must return to "common-sense conservatism."

Mr. McCain needs to get real. He's running around trying to paint himself as a conservative when any Republican knows this guy is a RINO. Maybe he and Giuliani should simply form their own ticket and Party. They can be honest and name the Party the RINO Party of America.

The Political Jobs have been updated.

Due to work schedules there will be no post on November 15 and 16

November 14, 2006 - Run Rudy Run

Another day another Republican says he wants to be President, this time it's Rudy. The former mayor filed papers to create the Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee, Inc.

There's one small problem for Rudy, the RINOs and some Democrats who would like a Giuliani White House. He can't win the GOP Primary. The conservative base will never come out for him and the Party's moderates will go with McCain.

Good luck anyway, Rudy.

November 13, 2006 - Pelosi to Lose First Battle

Incoming House Speaker, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, is backing Rep. Jack Murtha for majority leader.

The problem for the next speaker and Mr. Murtha is that most Democrats want Rep. Steny Hoyer as their next majority leader.

Ms. Pelosi probably should choose a different battle. Why lose your first battle as the new Speaker?

November 12, 2006 - We're Back

Sorry for the long absence but we've been a bit busy. Our Democrat half was busy working to kick our Republican half's butt in the midterm elections. We all know who came out on top of that battle.

So, now that one of us has finished celebrating and the other licking his wounds, it's time to get back to our attempt at a politically impartial blog.

As such, today's impartial remark is quick, according to several news reports, Sen. John McCain is taking the initial steps for a White House bid in 2008.

We thought he was already running, though he has yet to admit it. Then again, why would he admit it? It's better for him to continue to raise PAC money and spread that around to buy influence. It's the perfect way to circumvent McCain-Feingold.
