Would you vote for an Independent candidate for President?
Yes No

January 10, 2007 - Less than 50% is now a mandate

Yes, it's true, if you are re-elected with less than 50% of the vote you have a mandate. At least according to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

According to the Post-Dispatch the Governor Blagojevich actually said, "I read the (November 2006) election as a mandate for action. I intend to act."

Fortunately he said he wants to improve the state's schools. We hope he does so he can go to one and learn that less than 50% is not a mandate.

January 9, 2007 - Time's Up

Yesterday we wrote that we haven't said anything bad about a Republican in nearly a month. Today is no different, we're going to pick on the Democrats a little more, that's what happens when you are in power.

Yesterday marked Speaker Pelosi's 100th hour. Nothing happened! Well, nothing except the Democrats saying they are ready to kick-off their first 100 legislative hours. And that 100 hours doesn't start until after the big football game.

We strongly disagree with House Minority Whip Roy Blunt who said, "When you're in control, it (the first 100 hours) starts when you say it starts, includes what you say it includes and ends when you say it ends."

We can count. We know when the new Congress was sworn in and we know when 100 hours was up. We were working and expected Speaker Pelosi to keep her promise and have Congress working. So far we are unimpressed.

January 8, 2007 - Democrats can't even agree on Iraq

The Associated Press reports House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hinted at denying President Bush funds for the expected troop surge to Iraq.

Even Senator and Democrat Prez candidate Joe Biden said Bush will not be denied funds. And Biden hates the war in Iraq. But he also knows Congress cannot constitutionally second guess  the President on Iraq because they already voted to authorize the war.

Add to Mr. Biden's thoughts a quote from House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer when he was asked about holding back funds for the war. He said, "I don't want to anticipate that."

It's been nearly a month since we said anything bad about Republicans. Maybe these Democrats can all agree on at least one thing sometime soon.

January 5, 2007 - Congratulations Speaker Pelosi

Congratulations Speaker Pelosi. You have made history as the first female Speaker of the House.

Now would you kindly do us a favor and try something new, like bipartisanship. It's really not too hard. And you do catch more flies with honey.

January 4, 2007 - Hanging video arrests

The Associated Press reported that two guards and "an official" who supervised the hanging were arrested over the video.

Why? They taunted a murderer. They filmed the execution o said murderer. If you recall the Iraqi government originally was going to make this a public execution. Besides, all the conspiracy theorists out there never would have believed the man was dead if it wasn't filmed.

We say someone better go and post the bail for these guys.

January 3, 2007 - Iraqis to investigate taunts and video of Hussein hanging

According to just about every news outlet the Iraqi government "launched an investigation into the Shiite hangmen who taunted Saddam Hussein on the gallows as a ghoulish cell phone video of the scene triggered enraged Sunni protests."

Who cares who filmed the hanging, we enjoyed the video. No matter what your thoughts on the war are Hussein was a murderer and murderers should die. So, to whoever filmed it, thanks.

According to the New York Daily News some people were "chanting 'Moqtada, Moqtada, Moqtada!' at Saddam as an off-screen official begs, 'No, please don't say that.'"

And then, according to the story, Hussein responded with "Is this what you call manhood?"

Apparently the guards were telling him to go to hell as they slipped the noose around his neck. Now they are going to investigate. Why? The guy was a murderer. Did they really expect the guards to be nice to Hussein?

January 2, 2007 - Putting the war in perspective

Everybody has an opinion on Iraq. Even here where we try our best to keep everything kind of neutral. With one of us being a liberal and the other a good Republican we have some pretty good arguments about the war in Iraq. Rather than going with some long-winded post about our feelings, we decided today's post should be courtesy of Time Magazine:

America's Lost 3,000

The death toll for U.S. soldiers in Iraq has reached 3,000, a number that's both unbearable and, compared to previous military operations, relatively small.

That statement in Time says it all.
